NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is a comprehensive health and human services agency located in the heart of North Minneapolis. NorthPoint is comprised of two organizations: a community services nonprofit with a broad array of social and human services (NorthPoint Inc.) and a full service community health center (NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center) that includes medical, dental and behavioral health clinics. NorthPoint seeks to reduce health disparities, improve health outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of life for all residents of North Minneapolis by providing high quality medical, dental and behavioral health care, along with integrated social services such as its food shelf, housing resources and employment services -- with respect, dignity and sensitivity to a culturally rich and ethnically diverse community. With a paid staff of 300 and over 660 volunteers, we actively create a healthier community with a welcoming and caring atmosphere created by the professional health care staff, clinic staff, and human services staff and volunteers exceeding patient and client expectations for expertise and adaptability.
What is your role?
I am the volunteer manager supporting our staff and matching volunteers to great experiences.
How did you get involved in Volunteer Management?
I started volunteering just out of high school (many years ago) because I moved to the “big city” and I wanted to know and understand the diversity of my community. That experience opened my eyes and experiences and lead me to a career that I love.
What does it mean to you to be a MAVA member?
I appreciate the ability to collaborate with such smart and creative co-members. Every gathering and event I attend reaffirms to me the importance of the work we do. It recharges my enthusiasm to keep going!
