News for Administrators of Healthcare Volunteers

Earlier this year AHV hosted our first “Let’s Talk Healthcare” Networking Session. It was so well received; participants all agreed we should schedule another one . . . so here it is!

The format of this FREE networking session will be an informal discussion of current hot topics; an opportunity to ask questions and learn from your peers who work in a similar setting.  The agenda will be determined by participants.

Last time our topics included: getting staff buy-in, volunteer attendance policy and procedures for monitoring, fingerprinted background studies and disqualifying crimes for licensed health care organizations, recruiting skilled volunteers, electronic processes being used for onboarding volunteers, and demonstrating impact.  All of these were discussed specifically as they relate to healthcare settings.  Participants represented the full continuum of healthcare and wide spread geographic locations.

The event will be hosted by Susan Connolly, CVA, Director of Volunteer Services for St. Therese.  You can attend in person, or a call-in option is available; information will be available when you register on the MAVA website.  This event is free and open to all . . . whether or not they are a member of MAVA, so please help spread the word to others from healthcare organizations.  The more people who participate, the richer the exchange of information.  Start thinking what you would like to discuss.

2018 MAHV conference

AHV works collaboratively with the Minnesota Association of Healthcare Volunteers (MAHV) to help provide education opportunities for volunteer coordinators.  MAHV (formerly HCAM) is a statewide organization that has been serving Minnesota healthcare volunteers since 1946.  Their mission is to provide their members with opportunities to share ideas, develop leadership skills, and promote volunteer services that support Minnesota’s Healthcare facilities.  They have seven geographic regions throughout the state.  They have connections to the Minnesota Hospital Association and Leading Age (long term care association).

MAHV will host their conference September 12, 13, and 14.
It is open to both you as the professional volunteer leadership staff and to your volunteer leaders! Several AHV members are involved with planning and speaking at this event focused specifically on health care. You do not need to be a member of MAHV to attend this conference, and it is open to people from all types of health care organizations.
