Inclusive Volunteerism Report Now Available

MAVA is pleased to announce that our inclusive volunteerism report is now available! “Engaging Volunteers from Diverse and Immigrant Communities: 8 Strategies for Creating a More Inclusive Volunteer Program” is a comprehensive report of our research on engaging diverse volunteers, offering concrete steps for moving forward toward a volunteer program that reflects the diversity of your community. The report is free for MAVA members and $20 for non-members.

The full report and executive summary are both available on MAVA’s website.

In addition to creating this report, MAVA held 3 training sessions in 2017 on Engaging Volunteers from Diverse and Immigrant Communities, reaching over 110 volunteer engagement professionals from Minnesota and beyond.

If your organization or government is looking for customized help with recruiting volunteers from diverse communities or creating an inclusive volunteer program, MAVA is also available for customized training or consulting. Contact Lisa Joyslin, Inclusive Volunteerism Program Manager, at ljoyslin@mavanetwork.org for more information.

MAVA is excited to continue our inclusive volunteerism work into 2018. Our focus areas this year include:
- Distributing the research and findings of our 2017 study through trainings, consulting and sharing our report.
- Continuing the work of our Inclusive Volunteerism Task Force in identifying barriers to volunteerism in diverse communities and creating strategies for overcoming these barriers.
- Working with culturally-specific organizations and those that primarily serve diverse communities to invite them to share in MAVA’s networks and resources through free year-long memberships.
- Additional research into best practices for creating inclusive volunteer programs, particularly from the perspective of nonprofit organizations that primarily serve diverse communities.

If you are interested in learning more about this initiative and ways you or your organization can be involved, please contact Lisa Joyslin at ljoyslin@mavanetwork.org.

Thank you to the St. Paul Foundation for funding the Inclusive Volunteerism Initiative.
