MAVA Board of Directors
MAVA’s Board of Directors helps to provide leadership & fundraising for the organization. Board Members are expected to attend monthly board meetings (2 ½ hours) as well as attend 1 to 2 committee meetings each month. Board Members serve 2 year terms, usually start in January and are required to be MAVA members during their term of service. Descriptions of positions can be found here.

I have been involved with the board for many years. The impact for me has been tremendous. I have improved skills in strategic planning, negotiation, leadership and fund development. MAVA Committees
With MAVA’s small staff, Committees are essential to providing the leadership and people-power to accomplish many of MAVA’s initiatives and programs. Committees usually meet every month for about 2 hours. Committee members are also expected to do work outside of meetings. Serving on a Committee is a great way to share your talents or grow new ones.
Current Committee Roles Available:
- Conference Committee: work to organize and execute the 2013 Minnesota Conference on Volunteer Administration in areas such as program, volunteer management, fund development, marketing, technology, registration, exhibits, auction, and local flavor.
- Membership Committee: work to recruit and retain members for MAVA; develop ways to share member benefits with current & new members ; identify ways to engage membership in MAVA
- Professional Development Committee: foster professional development of MAVA members and volunteer administrators statewide through implementation of MAVA sponsored educational workshops each year.
- Public Affairs Committee: track current federal & state legislation that affect volunteerism and the volunteer administration profession; involve members in advocacy around issues that impact the field
- Connections Committee: Provide Metro MAVA members with the opportunity to gather, share ideas, challenges and program updates in a group setting through formalized networking.
Volunteer Positions
MAVA can greatly utilize the help of volunteers during our office hours to assist with general office tasks. Assisting MAVA through these roles gives an individual a great sense of the basics required at a non-profit that serves the state of MN as well as playing a critical role in serving MAVA members.
Current Volunteer Positions Available:
- Office Assistant: assist MAVA staff in answering phones, with mailings and preparing for MAVA trainings and events
- Event Assistant: assist at MAVA events.
- Technology Assistant: advise on and assist with MAVA's technological needs, including computer troubleshooting, web design, social media, etc.
- Advanced Initiative positions: volunteer to help write curriculum, serve on a task force or be a trainer for one of our advanced topic initiatives.
- Writer: Interview MAVA members for articles in MAVA monthly and for stories to include in trainings.
