Managing Burnout for Leaders of Volunteers

About this event

You are BURNED OUT!

You've been living with uncertainty fatigue far too long. The pandemic. The ongoing fight against racial injustice. The Great Resignation. The changing landscape for volunteering. The continual challenges of managing up and down as a leader of volunteers. The list goes on. You want to continue to perform and make an impact, but you are exhausted.

Then you get hard on yourself, wondering why you can't just buckle down and be productive. You criticize yourself for not doing the things you know will make you feel better. On top of that, the work just keeps coming, and you have no idea how to get anything off your plate.

Sound familiar? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Burnout rates have skyrocketed over the past two years. And, let's face it, many of us were a little (a lot) burned out before this all started. Burnout is not your fault - but there is something you can do about it.

In this interactive session we'll discuss the signs of burnout and how the ongoing uncertainty impacts your energy and emotions, as well as others around you - volunteers, colleagues, family and friends. Then we'll dive into the REAL steps to recover from burnout - and stay that way. This isn't about taking naps and bubble baths. You'll get practical, tangible steps you can use immediately, including:

  • The key to releasing stress

  • Practices to build self-compassion and resilience

  • Strategies to reset boundaries and expectations

  • Simple actions you can take for yourself, your volunteers and your team to improve work-life balance

Heather Whelpley is a speaker, consultant, and author of the book An Overachiever's Guide To Breaking The Rules: How To Let Go Of Perfect and Live Your Truth. She has led workshops and webinars on imposter syndrome, using your authentic voice to create change, creating your own rules for success, and managing burnout with thousands of people at different organizations and conferences. Prior to owning her business, Heather worked in a wide variety of leadership development, human resources, and change management roles at Cargill and Ameriprise for ten years. While living in Minnesota, she was also an active volunteer, including volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Perspectives, and serving at the Chair of the HandsOn Twin Cities board. Heather now lives in Colorado where she spends as much time hiking and exploring as possible. Learn more at www.heatherwhelpley.com

The training will be highly interactive and will require you to be able to view the slides and use your camera and audio to interact with the trainers and other participants.
