Why did you make the choice to serve a year as an AmeriCorps VISTA member?
I wanted to serve a second term to work on my leadership skills more. My last year of service gave me a lot of insight into how non-profits work and my own work style and preferences. This year of service will teach me about my own leadership skills. I also hope to learn more about non-profit management.
What are you working on this year?
This year I am working to cultivate the skills of the VISTAs working at different sites for MAVA and build upon them so we, as a cohort, can learn what we are truly capable of. I am also working to make the collected resources MAVA has to offer more accessible to its members and by proxy my VISTA cohort.
What do you hope to do in the future and how is VISTA supporting that?
I hope to either found my own non-profit or go into non-profit management at one that suits the need I would like to fill. This year of service will help me establish more of a big picture mindset when thinking about non-profit management.
