The Mary Wiser Award for Excellence in Volunteer Administration: John Pribyl, Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs Director.

John has been involved in the field of volunteering for 35 years. He encourages senior citizens to share their wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience as a way of serving others. He educates state and federal legislators about volunteering and the aging issues and has helped secure additional state funds for Foster Grandparent Program, Senior Companion and RSVP. John started the Senior Companion Program in Minnesota. In 1994 he became director for the Lutheran Social Service Foster Grandparent Program. He is considered a national leader through his involvement with the Senior Companion Association and the Corporation for National and Community Service. John was instrumental in bringing together the Foster Grandparent Program, the Senior Companion Program and RSVP to become one statewide association. The MnSC is a strong leader in the country and John has been the Program Leader. His latest achievement is developing Experience Corps for senior volunteers in Minnesota. John’s impact in improving the lives of older Americans would be hard to assess. His influence has helped Minnesota become a leader in the country for a higher quality of life for seniors and all of us.
