NICHOLAS TRUSO

The MAVA Awards for Excellence in Youth Volunteerism

Nicholas Truso, of White Bear Lake, received an Excellence Award in Youth Volunteerism on December 6, 2007 from MAVA, Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration. Nicholas’s valiant volunteerism for the Women’s Life Care Center began over 5 years ago when he was a boy scout beginning his eagle project. For his project, Nick put Christmas trees at various churches decorated with ornaments they parishioners could take, each listed with an item needed by a women in crisis pregnancies. Those who took the ornaments donated the listed items, including car seats, diapers, formula and much more. Even tough Nick’s project could have been a one time program; he continued his venture and got his whole family involved. To date, Nick’s project has resulted in the dispersal of over 10,000 items to these women. It has been such a success that the Life Care Center has been able to double the women it supports. In addition to his efforts with the Life Care Center, Nick has been active in his local rotary club. In 2004 Nick organized a group of people from his high school to fundraise so orphans in India could pay for and receive cataract surgeries. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, Nick also coordinated a collection of over 5000 books so victims in Jamaica could rebuild there library. Nick Truso is currently a student at St. John’s University in St. Cloud, where is heroic efforts for the community and world continue. Thank you Nick Truso for your efforts and the example of the change one person can create.
