JUDIE RUSSELL

The MAVA Mary Wiser Award for Excellence in Volunteer Administration

This award was established to honor Mary Wiser, past director of volunteer services at Courage Center. As author, consultant and trainer Sue Vineyard says, “Mary left a legacy that can be an inspiration to us all as she blazed the trail toward a higher level of professionalism.”

The award is recognition of excellence by the recipient’s peers. It honors a professional in the field of volunteer administration who demonstrates the vision, diligence, and commitment to service that are the hallmarks of professionalism in the field.

Judith Russell has been committed to the development of volunteer leadership for many years. She lent her knowledge, dedication and energy to the creation and implementation of MAVA’s VRL volunteer leadership training series. Because of Ms. Russell’s efforts, MAVA memberships have increased by 50% and volunteer administrators from all over Minnesota have become of a part of MAVA. The VRL training series would not be the same without her vision and steadfastness. In addition to her work on the leadership training series, Ms. Russell has presented at several workshops and conferences and served as a consultant to many. In her career at Children’s Home Society, she has developed many volunteer service programs including the befriender program, the birthparent connection, the crisis nursery service model, and many others. Thank you to Ms. Russell for her deep commitment to the area of volunteer administration and management, and all her efforts that have contributed to the success of the Minnesota Association of Volunteer Administration.
